Next year, Avengers: Infinity War will burst into theaters, and the highly anticipated blockbuster won’t leave its massive roster unscathed. As production on the film nears completion, evidence is mounting that one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s main heroes will not survive the film. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are in for a rude awakening thanks to Thanos, and one hero will pay the ultimate price for the group's ignorance.
Iron Man is the founding member of the MCU, and he has become one of the most popular members of the Avengers. Tony Stark may not have led the team until recently, but his ethos and hair-brained schemes characterize the team thoroughly. Robert Downey Jr. is the genius behind Iron Man, and the actor’s tenure with Marvel Studios always seems to be under negotiation these days. The actor has been starring in MCU films since 2008, so Avengers: Infinity War might give Tony Stark a poignant bow-out next year. After all, Don Cheadle’s War Machine is always around to take over until someone like Riri Williams can be cast.
If any of the main Avengers truly die in Marvel’s blockbuster, most would agree Captain America will be the man to go. Chris Evans has played Steve Rogers for years now, and his contract with Marvel Studios had to be specially extended for him to star in the next Avengers movies. The actor claims he will take part in the MCU up until Avengers 4, but there is a good chance Captain America’s death in Avengers: Infinity War will be what spurs the team into reconciliation following Civil War. The death of Captain America would be a blow to all parties; Even Star-Lord with his extraterrestrial upbringing would have known about Steve before Yondu's crew snatched him. Captain American somehow made it through Civil Warunscathed, allowing the MCU time to fully flesh out successor options in the Falcon or the Winter Soldier. Now, all that’s left is for Captain America to - well - join Peggy Carter up in the sky.
